Selecting an AI Model
Fater offers a variety of AI models, each designed for different creative tasks like generating new images, editing existing ones, upscaling, creating 3D assets, or producing videos. The first step in any AI workflow is selecting the appropriate model.
You select AI models primarily through the Model Selector interface located in the Left Sidebar of the active Editor Mode (Image, Asset, or Video).
Accessing the Model Selector
Ensure you are in the desired Editor Mode (e.g., Image Editor for image tasks, Asset Editor for 3D, Video Editor for video).
Look to the Left Sidebar. The Model Selector is usually a prominent component at or near the top of this sidebar.
How the Model Selector Works (Image Editor Example)
While the exact models listed change per Editor Mode, the selection process is generally similar. Let's use the Image Editor's Model Selector as an example:

Choose a Category Tab:
At the top of the Model Selector, you'll find tabs for broad model categories:
✨ Generate: For creating new images from scratch or with significant structural guidance.
🖌️ Edit: For modifying existing images, often within masked areas (inpainting).
🖼️ Upscale: For increasing image resolution and detail.
Click the tab for the type of task you want to perform.
Select a SubCategory (if applicable):
For "Generate" and "Edit" categories, a "Type" (or SubCategory) dropdown will appear.
Choose from options like:
Basic: General-purpose models for the selected category.
Controlled: Models designed to be guided by Control Layers (Edges/Depth).
Special: Models with unique functionalities or input requirements.
Selecting a SubCategory filters the available models further.
Select a Control Type (if "Controlled" SubCategory is chosen):
If you selected the "Controlled" SubCategory, another dropdown for "Control Type" will appear.
Choose from:
Contour (Edges): For models that use Edges maps.
Depth: For models that use Depth maps.
Choose the Specific Model Name:
Finally, a "Model" dropdown will display user-friendly names (e.g., "Medium," "Turbo," "High," "Relight") for the AI models fitting your selected criteria.
Select the model you wish to use from this list.
Automatic Selection: When you change a Category, SubCategory, or Control Type, Fater often automatically selects the first available model in the newly filtered list and updates the parameter controls below the Model Selector accordingly.
Model Selection in Other Editor Modes
Asset Editor: The Model Selector will list models relevant to 3D asset generation (e.g., the current 3D reconstruction model). The categorization might be simpler or different.
Video Editor: The Model Selector will list AI models specifically for video generation (e.g., image-to-video or text-to-video models).
After Selecting a Model
Once you select a model:
The parameter controls in the Left Sidebar below the Model Selector will update to show settings specific to that chosen model.
You are now ready to Configure Model-Specific Parameters.
Refer to the AI Model Directory for a detailed list of available models, their user-facing names, categories, and intended uses.
