AI-Powered Content Removal
Fater provides a quick AI-powered feature in the Image Editor to remove content within a masked area and attempt to fill the space. This is accessed via the "Delete Mask Content" action (Trash icon) on the Inpaint Toolbar.
While it can be very fast, it's important to understand its characteristics and when it's most effective compared to more sophisticated Inpainting models.
When to Use "Delete Mask Content"
This tool is best suited for:
Rapidly removing elements where a perfect, seamless fill is less critical, or as a first pass before further refinement.
Situations where standard Inpainting models struggle, especially with:
Removing strong light sources or high-contrast elements: Some general inpainting AIs find it hard to convincingly eliminate bright lights or very dark objects without leaving artifacts. This dedicated removal tool can sometimes handle these cases more effectively, even if the fill quality is simpler.
Quick clean-up tasks where speed is a priority.
Quality Considerations & Cost:
Fill Quality: The fill generated by this tool will be less detailed or contextually aware than results from more advanced inpainting models that use detailed text prompts. It often performs a simpler content-aware fill based on immediate surrounding pixels.
Speed: This operation is generally very fast.
Credit Cost: This tool is intended to be low-cost or potentially free of credit consumption in the near future, making it an economical choice for quick removals.
Workflow for Removing Content
Prepare Your Image and Mask:
Ensure the image is visible on your Inpaint Canvas.
Create a Precise Mask: Select the exact object or area you want to remove.
Generation Area Bounding Box: Adjust this to encompass your mask and sufficient surrounding context. Larger area are recommended here.
Select the Removal Model (via Tool Options):
Right-click the Delete Mask Content (Trash icon) on the Inpaint Toolbar.
Model: Choose an option from the "Model" dropdown. These options represent different underlying algorithms for content removal, which may vary in their effectiveness for different types of content.
Initiate Content Removal:
Click the Delete Mask Content (Trash icon) on the Inpaint Toolbar.
AI Processing & Result:
The AI attempts to fill the masked region based on the surrounding pixels.
The result is added as a new layer.
Tips for Effective Use
Mask Quality: Accurate masking is still important.
Best for Challenging Removals: Consider this tool first when standard inpainting with a prompt struggles with high-contrast elements like light sources.
Use as a First Pass: If the fill quality isn't perfect, you can use this tool for a quick removal and then further refine the area using more advanced Inpainting models with a descriptive prompt.
Experiment with Models: If multiple removal "Model" options are available in the tool's right-click menu, try different ones if the first result isn't ideal.
Think of "Delete Mask Content" as a fast, often cost-effective utility for straightforward removals or for tackling elements that other AI techniques find difficult, even if it sometimes means a simpler fill that might require further touch-up.
