The assistant interface
Navigating the AI Assistant Interface
Your AI Assistant is ready to help! You'll usually find it in its own tab or panel within the application, featuring a chat-like interface. Here's a quick guide to its main parts:
1. The Prompt Input Area
This is where you'll type your instructions for the assistant. It's usually a text box at the bottom of the assistant panel.
How to use it: Simply click into the box and start typing your request.
Sending your prompt: Once you're ready, press Enter on your keyboard or click the 'Send' button (often looks like a paper airplane icon (Icon: Paper Airplane)).
Multi-line prompts: If you want to type a longer prompt with multiple lines before sending, you can usually press Shift+Enter to go to the next line without sending the message.
2. 'Send' or 'Execute' Button (Icon: Paper Airplane)
This button is typically located right next to the prompt input area.
What it is: It's the button you click to submit your typed prompt to the AI assistant after you've finished writing it.
3. Image Attachment Button/Area (Icon: Paperclip or Plus Sign)
Look for a paperclip icon (Icon: Paperclip) or a plus button (Icon: Plus Sign) near the prompt input area.
What it is: This button allows you to attach images from your computer or other sources to your prompt.
How to use it: Click the button, and you'll usually be prompted to select an image file.
Why it's helpful: Adding an image can give the assistant valuable visual context for your request. For example, you could attach a photo and ask the assistant to "change the color of the car in this image to red."
4. Voice Input Button (Icon: Microphone)
If your setup supports voice commands, you'll see a microphone icon (Icon: Microphone).
What it is: This button lets you speak your commands to the assistant instead of typing.
How to use it: Typically, you'll click the microphone icon, speak your command clearly, and then either click the icon again or wait for a moment for it to process your voice. The assistant will then transcribe your speech into text in the prompt area.
5. Chat Display Area
This is the main part of the assistant panel, located above the prompt input area. It's where your conversation with the assistant unfolds.
What it shows:
Your Prompts: Everything you've typed or spoken.
Assistant's Text Responses: Any messages, questions, or information the assistant provides.
Assistant-Generated Images: If the assistant creates or modifies an image for you, it might show a preview directly in the chat.
Assistant's Actions: Sometimes, you'll see a list of steps or actions the assistant is taking to fulfill your request. (You can learn more about this in "Understanding How the Assistant Works (And Watching It in Action!)").
6. Managing the Conversation
You might have some options to manage the chat history:
Clear Chat History (Icon: Trash Can or "Clear" button): Look for a button (perhaps a trash can icon or labeled "Clear Chat") that will erase the entire conversation with the assistant, giving you a fresh start.
Delete Individual Messages (If available): Some interfaces might allow you to delete specific messages from the chat by hovering over them and looking for a delete option (e.g., a small 'x' or trash icon).
7. Status Indicators
Keep an eye out for visual cues that tell you what the assistant is doing:
"Thinking..." or "Processing...": You'll often see a message like this, or perhaps a subtle animation, when the assistant is working on your request.
Spinning Icon / Progress Bar: For tasks that take a bit longer, you might see a spinning wheel or a progress bar to show that the assistant is still active.
By familiarizing yourself with these elements, you'll be able to interact with your AI Assistant smoothly and efficiently!
