Understanding Auto-Save

Fater is designed to ensure your work is protected by automatically saving your project progress in the background. There is no manual "Save" button within the Fater Editor; the application handles saving for you.

How Auto-Save Works

  • Trigger: Fater's auto-save feature is typically triggered after a short period of inactivity while you are working in the Editor. If you pause your project modifications requiring a save to be triggered for 5 seconds, the auto-save process will initiate.

  • What is Saved: When auto-save occurs, Fater saves the current state of your entire project, including:

    • All layers, their properties (visibility, opacity, position, scale, content), and their arrangement in different Layer Workspaces.

    • 3D assets and their properties (if using the Asset Editor).

    • Video clips and their properties (if using the Video Editor).

    • AI model parameters selected in the sidebars.

    • Agent chat history and custom Agent configurations.

    • The overall canvas position and zoom level.

  • Cloud Storage: Your project data is saved to Fater's secure cloud storage, associated with your account and organization. This means you can typically close your browser or switch devices and resume your work from the last auto-saved point.

  • Indicator: While the auto-save is in progress, you will see a shader animation in the canvas background. Once completed, your work is securely stored.

Benefits of Auto-Save

  • Peace of Mind: You don't have to constantly remember to save your work.

  • Prevents Data Loss: Reduces the risk of losing progress due to accidental browser closure, crashes, or internet disruptions.

  • Seamless Workflow: Allows you to focus on your creative tasks without interruption for manual saving.

Important Considerations

  • Short Inactivity Period: Be aware that the save triggers after a relatively short period of inactivity. This is generally good for data safety.

  • Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is required for auto-save to successfully sync your project to the cloud. If your connection is intermittent, there might be delays or issues with the most recent changes being saved until the connection is restored.

  • Reverting Major Mistakes: Because saving is automatic and frequent, if you make a significant unwanted change (like accidentally deleting many layers and then pausing), that change might be auto-saved quickly.

    • For mask edits, use Undo/Redo.

    • For AI generations, use the Generation Task List to select previous outputs.

    • For other major accidental changes where auto-save has already occurred, reverting might be difficult. Consider duplicating projects or layers before undertaking very destructive operations.

    • The "Emergency Reload" method (reloading the browser page before an auto-save completes) is highly risky and not a reliable way to undo changes. (See Reverting Changes & Undoing Mistakes...)

Understanding that Fater handles saving automatically allows you to work with confidence, knowing your progress is regularly being preserved.
